Why Is No One Talking About Post Incarceration Syndrome?

The other night I was out on the balcony, getting some fresh air and just, thinking. I’ve recently started to get into researching the school-to-prison pipeline, when I came across this article online about Post Incarceration Syndrome (PICS). Quick breakdown, (to avoid going too far into detail), PICS is a mixed mental disorder with four clusters of symptoms: Institutionalized / Antisocial Personality Traits Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Social-Security Deprivation Syndrome Reactive Substance Use Disorder Again, not going into specific detail about any of those, but you should definitely check out the article when you get a chance. After reading over it, I started to think about myself and my jail experiences. I had never really thought about it until now, but to me it explained a lot. See, before I started on my little “outlaw” run, I wasn’t the way I am now. Meaning I wasn’t a homebody. Before I was out every weekend or chance I could get to go out. Didn’t matt

The World's Human Zoo: Social Media, USA.

Remember back when the days of social media consisted of making your sibling get off of the house phone, so that you could dial-up to AOL Chat? Or logging onto Myspace to check to see if lil shawty from Arizona hit you back yet? I mean, the biggest dilemma you had was trying to explain to why your homeboy, who you hooped with everyday, wasn't in your top friends. These days there's no telling what you'll get sliding down your timeline. Videos of students fighting teachers. Brothers standing in the middle of the street, flashing guns and money. Social media challenges have replaced homework. Because let's face it, there's more family involvement there with hope of going viral. The invasion of of your personal and private cyber life. At least once every couple of months, we're all tuned into another episode of  "DM Gone Wrong: Celebrity Edition", waiting to see what new juice leaks out. Ready to start generating the memes and hashtags; The viral assaul

God Sent Me an Uber

After being completely and utterly disappointed and frustrated with my current life situation, i decided something had to change. Knowing that I have ran my life into a deep hole of a mess and that I could and SHOULD be doing much better, that’s what I wanted. I wanted to be happy; something I’ve never been before. So I made the call. I got God on the line and told him everything. How forgotten and abandoned I felt, as if he were picking on me. All of my failures, disappointments, the blown / mismanaged opportunities. I opened up and got everything off my chest. The ups, the downs, the would’ve-should’ve-could’ves’....Everything. After going on my little rant and after a brief moment of silence, mixed with some chuckling, I was told that I was being sent a car; an Uber. “Just get in the car and I’ll tell you how to fix it.”  Now once again, i felt like me and my issues were just another crumb on a table full of loaves that was just going to get passed over and wiped away. But bein

#BlackLivesMatter yet another #BlackLifeGone

Float with me on this.. I've been thinking a lot lately about the Haitian Revolution, not really sure why. Couldn't even really tell you where it came from, but i've been doing some HEAVY research on it; and today in one of our frequent conversations, lol , I'm going just going to share with you, what he has explained to me....but only because he told me too lmao...(y’all probably think i'm tripping but just hear me out lol!!!) Now, to avoid getting too deep (because i can get deep lol), essentially, the african slaves that were brought to what was then, Saint-Domingue, revolted against the white slave owners, and took back what is now, Haiti..they killed all the white people...Allofem. Gone. lol..Well, the European and other white leaders started to hear about it because they were white refugees fleeing from Haiti. Peep that Trump, white refugees, who'd ever thunk huh? smh. The slaves got tired of being slaves and all linked up. Well, what does any of

God Don't Bless No Mess

In Chapter 2 of the Book of Judges, God had gotten fed up with the Children of Israel because they had been serving other gods. After Joshua died, Moses successor, being that they now had no leader, "and they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and Ashtaroth." (v. 13) . Baal is just another name for Satan, and makes quite a few cameos in the Old Test. Ashtaroth was the goddess of sex/fertility from what I could gather. If you keep reading on, you'll see that God saved them four times, but they still continued to go back and serve the other gods. It upset God so much, in verse 23 says: "..therefore the Lord left those nations." . He LEFT them! But that was in the Old Testament, old news right? Well, here's what the Apostle Paul said: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship hath righteousness  with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14  The answer to your question, in

Serve The Meal

Have you ever had a long day? I mean, one of those “been up for 10 hours on my feet” type of days. When you stop and get food, but it’s still on the counter the morning after because you were too tired to eat it? Yea….you know what I’m talking about. So you rush to the bed. Your sweet king sized, pillow topped, overflowing with pillows, bed. Your comfort zone. Because after a long, hard day, that’s all you really want. Fall down face first, clothes and shoes still intact, you realize you need to get up. Shower or simply changing would suffice. You just need to get….comfortable. You muster up the strength to get up and get in the shower. After pulling a 10 hour shift, you just want to shower, change clothes and get in the bed!! As you’re putting on your bed clothes, you just start to think about the day you’ve had and everything that happened. Then those events may lead to thoughts about everything you have to do tomorrow or make plans for. Next thing you know you find yourself str

God Is In The Water

In my last post, Who's Really Reforming Healthcare in America? , I left off what with the question: Why was Moses punished for hitting the rock that provided the people with water? This wasn’t the first time that he had struck a rock and provided water for the people. However, it was the second time doing it that kept him from entering into the Promised Land. Now, this is Moses we’re talking about, one of the greatest prophets and leaders that ever lived! Yet despite all of the things he did and how God used him, he still didn’t make it in. Now, this may be a little lengthy, and this only the first part. But if you stick with me until the end, you shall be blessed. Flint, Michigan ., this one is for you. So, having said all of that, let’s get into it shall we?! Float with me on this… Throughout the entire first chapter of Genesis , there is a significant amount of reference and use of water. However, it’s the subtle key emphasis of water that were intriguing to me. Immedia

Who's Really Reforming Healthcare in America?

After trying to figure out where I was going to go with the follow up to What's Happening To Our Black Men , I checked a few of my social media feeds and I found it. Health Care! Healthcare is a major topic that’s currently going on right now and I thought I’d give my take on it. So with that being said, let’s get into it shall we?!?! My thoughts started me with Moses and the striking of the rock at the Waters of Meribah (Num 20) . Now, quick summary. This passage is most known for the being the cause of Moses not being able to enter into the Promised Land. Within the first month of being in the wilderness, the people got upset with Moses because they had no food or water. They even ask him why would he bring them into the wilderness to die (v.4) .They were almost ready to kill this man! At this point, Moses and his brother Aaron, manage to sneak away from the people. They had to go pray about it lol. God then tells Moses, “Take the staff, and assemble the congregati

What's Happening To Our Black Men?

For the past few days, single mothers has been a topic that i’ve been hearing a lot about. It sparked my interest when I saw a tweet about it. The tweet was about a predominantly black youth department where 80% of the kids didn’t have a father present. It went on to ask “Why men traditionally gotta be awful?”, in which I replied, “If God hadn’t put Joseph into place, Mary would have been a single mother”. After doing a brief search of single black mothers, I found that over 72% of black children are born to single mothers. Immediately after reading that, my mind went back to the Amerikkka's Attack on the Black Community  post; Jesus more specifically. Remember how I explained how I thought the devil is operating in the United States Government?? Well… Float with me on this. We aren’t told much about Joseph in the scriptures, but we know that he was worthy enough to be handpicked to father the Son of God. It’s also interesting to note that he wasn’t mentioned until the tim
