BLACK

“Black”

I took a look in their little “Black Book” and what did I see?
That we’re just a bunch of “Black Sheep” in the dictionary
“Black balled” into believing that evil is dark,
Mis-educating our children, leaving mental “Black Marks”

On this “Black Friday” I really must say,
This book should be on the “Black Market”….revised, Today!
To “Blacken” a people with such negative words,
Is mental “Blackballing”, but i don’t mind a “Blackbird”

Look in the “Black Book” at how they describe their race
Anything “Blackened” is attributed to your “Black Face”
Educationally “Blackmailed”, dispensing “Black Bile” ,
Hearing bad “Black” words so long, some accept it in style

Caucasian descriptions, giving us a “Black Eye” ,
And they say a “Black Panther” is a militant guy
“Black Art” is witchcraft, “Black Leg” a disease ,
A “Black Fellow” is an Aborigine….overseas

Do you live in the “Black Belt”? deep down in the southeast?
Or have you seen “Black Disease”? It’s fatal among beasts!
Have you ever been “Blackballed” or beaten “Black & Blue”?
The most sinuous dance in the roaring 20's was “Black Bottom”
……..Google it, it’s true!

If you go to “Black Mass”, well that’s just blasphemy
“Black Heart” is a disease bringing “Black Death” to a tree
Are we still under “Black Code”, limiting your rights?
Or have you heard of “Black Hand”, a criminal group, out of sight

“Black Measles” killed a lot of people way back in the past
A “Black -A- Moor” is a discoloration that last and last
A “Black Pope” is so offensive to the religious Klan ,
A “Black Muslim” advocates the separation of man

I feel like I’m a victim of verbal “Blackmail”
Is there a “Black” word in Webster’s for all the “Black” people in jail?
The “Black Book” said a “Black Guard” is contemptibly low ,
It also stated “Black Face” is to imitate a negro

So I’m working my “Black Magic” so our minds can be free
But look, wait, I’ve found something…
“Black Gold” !!! …..never mind, that’s just Texas Tea
They equate themselves to day and us to night
Why yes MJ, it really DOES matter if you’re “Black or white”
These are the words that we’re taught to know
Read deep between the lines and your mind will begin to grow
On a sunny day while you’re having that picnic in the park
Remember the light that’s shining, must also come to the dark

Whenever you’re in a group and you want to say it loud
Are you sure you want to be shouting, “I’m Black and I’m Proud”?
We’re varying shades of brown people, all of African descent
Thanks for the fake book Mr. Webster, now change it…...hint, hint, hint.

A Second Chance

The book of Philemon was actually the book that started "The Biblical Nerd" . It was after hearing one a Bishop T.D. Jakes sermon a few years ago, that sent me on my "Quest for Biblical Knowledge" . It's also one of the shortest books in the bible in fact, with just one chapter and 25 verses. (shorter than this post). Written by the Apostle Paul, this short but powerful letter of love and forgiveness, was sent to Philemon in regards to one of his slaves, Onesimus. This happens to be one of my favorite stories in the bible and one I read and think about often. That being said, let's get into it shall we? I'll start off with a little background of the characters, then bring it all together. Mind clear? Body relaxed? Good. Here we go!!: Philemon Leader of the Church of Colossae church met at his house royalty; owned slaves; Onesimus follower of Christ; converted by Paul Onesimus slave of Philemon ran away after committing a crime against P...

God Sent Me an Uber

After being completely and utterly disappointed and frustrated with my current life situation, i decided something had to change. Knowing that I have ran my life into a deep hole of a mess and that I could and SHOULD be doing much better, that’s what I wanted. I wanted to be happy; something I’ve never been before. So I made the call. I got God on the line and told him everything. How forgotten and abandoned I felt, as if he were picking on me. All of my failures, disappointments, the blown / mismanaged opportunities. I opened up and got everything off my chest. The ups, the downs, the would’ve-should’ve-could’ves’....Everything. After going on my little rant and after a brief moment of silence, mixed with some chuckling, I was told that I was being sent a car; an Uber. “Just get in the car and I’ll tell you how to fix it.”  Now once again, i felt like me and my issues were just another crumb on a table full of loaves that was just going to get passed over and wiped away. But ...
Yesterday evening as I was strolling down my Instagram timeline, I ran across a video of 100 Black men, greeting students as they arrived on their first day of school. Dressed in suit and ties, the video was of them clapping and applauding the kids as they exited off of the school bus. After watching it, the idea about doing something similar in my hometown would be a pretty cool idea. So I made a status and posted in on Facebook. Within 20 minutes, I found myself on the organizing end of getting 50 Black Men together to provide the same welcome and encouragement to the students of Person County, as our brothers did in Atlanta. Often, I find myself passing on opportunities due to fear. I struggle with self-doubt; I'm harder on myself than anyone else could ever be. The only thing that I could think about after getting back such a strong, positive response from the community, was how am I going to get 50 men together for this? I prayed on it and went to sleep. When I woke up t...
